How will businesses navigate the National Living Wage

Following the changes announced to the National Living Wage (NLW), Beacon, Britain's leading purchasing organisation is delighted to be running a workshop at it's annual Beacon Exhibition in January 2016.

The workshop, available for all attendees with help highlight the changes implemented by the ruling, as well as giving details on how employers can ensure that they are compliant.

DAC Beachcroft LLP is a leading international law firm employing more than 2,200 people with coverage across the UK, Europe, Asia-Pacific, Latin America and North America. With specialist Retail and Hospitality expertise, DAC Beachcroft LLP provides full service legal advice to over 90 clients in the sector on key areas such as HR & Employment, Product Liability, Consumer Rights, Regulatory, Commercial Contracts, and Food Safety & Hygiene.

Louise Bloomfield (Partner) and Sam Proffitt (Legal Executive) from the firm's 'Chambers and Partners 2016 National Leaders' Employment & Pensions Group will be running a workshop on the scope and implementation of the NLW in the Retail and Hospitality sector.

The new compulsory National Living Wage presents considerable financial and practical challenges for all businesses, particularly those with large numbers of staff who currently earn the existing National Minimum Wage. The retail and hospitality sector is expected to be particularly adversely impacted.

DAC Beachcroft LLP's workshop will identify the scope for businesses to implement the NLW in an effective way; providing the requisite knowledge to ensure legal compliance, whilst presenting pragmatic solutions in order to mitigate the financial impact of the increased cost.

Considerations which will be reviewed at the workshop include:

  • What is the NLW and do I have to implement it?
  • What will the overall cost implications be for my business?
  • Can I consider the cost of paying the NLW in my recruitment practices?
  • How I can make cost savings elsewhere in my business to mitigate the effects of the NLW?
  • Are there knock-on effects for other staff and will I have to increase their wages too?
  • What are other businesses doing?
  • What's on the horizon for future minimum wage policy?

DAC Beachcroft LLP's workshop will ensure you are adequately prepared for the NLW and give you all the tools to reduce the impact of it on your business. To register for the event, please click here.
