It looks like a bumper month ahead if the weather behaves! Summer season fish are in strong supply and larger vessels will be out after refits following the Prawn, Scallop and Cuttle fishing season; so we should see more volumes at auction. Due to the stable water temperatures, the late arrival of summer fish like Sardines & Mackerel will mean that they will be around for longer than normal. Mussels, Cockles and Clams that have been poor out of season should start to recover after spawning.

Direct Seafoods buyer recommendations for September

Sea Reared Trout - Origin: Norway
This fish is in prime condition as a great summer fish. Delicate in flavour and stunning in colour. A good value menu option versus Wild Sea Trout and a continued pick from the buying team.

Hake - Origin: Scotland, North East Atlantic, South west
This tidal species continues in abundance and looks set to continue through the summer period as the tides settle down. There are some great bargains to be had here.

Mackerel - Origin: Scotland, South West,Spain, Portugal & France
This fish is in full flow on the south coast and in Scotland with sustainable beautiful line caught supply. A strong pick again for September and beyond due to the late season.

Plaice - Origin: Iceland, Scotland, North East Atlantic, South West

Plaice continue to look good and auctions are showing very full fish. Landings from the Northwest down to Hastings on the South Coast are of a very high standard.

Sardines - Origin: Portugal, Spain, South West, Scotland
We are now in the middle of the Sardine season with good volumes across the south and south west. Sardines have made a late but welcome arrival this summer and are the ideal accompaniment for any summer into autumn menu.
