Mondelēz International, Inc. and Douwe Egberts Master Blenders 1753 B.V this week announced that they have completed the transactions to combine their respective coffee businesses, including Mondelēz International’s coffee portfolio, to create JACOBS DOUWE EGBERTS (JDE), which will be the world’s leading pure-play coffee company.
A new giant in the coffee industry has been created with the merger of, DE Master Blenders 1753 and Mondelez International.
The deal agreed on 6th July sees the formation of the world’s second-largest coffee company after DE Master Blenders agreed to hand US-based Mondelez £2.9bn in cash and a 49pc stake in the combined company.
Now known as Jacobs Douwe Egberts, the collaboration will mean that brands such as Carte Noire, Kenco, Millicano, Douwe Egberts coffee, Senseo and Tassimo will all fall under the same roof - thus creating a strong competitor for current market leaders, Nestle.
Mondelez have said that the deal will allow them to focus on its snacks business which includes Cadbury’s chocolate and Oreo cookies.
