April seafood report from Direct Seafoods

Direct Seafood have issued their latest seafood report. Please read on to see what's hot in the world of seafood for April and to see how your menu choices can impact customer satisfaction and margins...

Guest Article: Direct Seafoods

The eclipse saw some of the highest spring tides in recent records, these are subsiding now and day boats will be out longer with the clocks moving forward. So as usual less night fishing for trawlers, equals lower volumes at auction generally, but better quality landings...

Easter will see the English auctions closed on the Good Friday and Bank Holiday Monday, with Scotland closed just on the Monday. Direct Seafood ask that you speak to your local sales teams for more details.

Turbot
Turbot still showing great value, but stay clear of the 1.5-2kg sizes which demand a premium. Buyers pick for April, so look out for some deals.

Brill
April will see some nice parcels of fish with day boat fleets like Maryport out in Morecambe Bay and Irish Sea targeting Brill. It’s a buyers pick for April.

Hake
This tidal species is in abundance and looks set to continue through the spring period as the tides settle down and remains a buyers tip for April.
