On-trade supplier Matthew Clark are delighted to announce increased sales as a result in the demand for English wines and beers.
Beacon on-trade drinks supplier, Matthew Clark have reported a sharp increase in sales, boosted by the uplift in the English beer, wine and spirit market.
Matthew Clark commercial director, Ian Smith, said 'We see locally produced beers, wines and spirits as a key trend to watch. For several years, locally-sourced food has been firmly in the spotlight, and we are seeing this trend growing in drinks as well. Consumers, particularly when visiting higher-end establishments, are increasingly demanding drinks with local heritage and provenance and Matthew Clark has responded to this by expanding our range of home grown beers, wines and spirits to satisfy this demand.
Matthew Clark's wine sector saw a 53% increase in sales (in year until September). A double digit YOY growth specifically in English wine sales has also been achieved due to the growth of fine dining, prestige and boutique hotel trade.
A 13% YOY growth in UK beers and spirits has been achieved as a result in the growth of the Boutique Beers range.
The biggest leap comes from the homegrown spirit sector, with brands Sipsmith Sipping and London Dry Gin seeing a massive collective leap of 254%.
Beacon drinks buyer, Mark Holness says 'The trends as highlighted by Matthew Clark have been reflected across the Beacon customer base. The craft beer market has seen a 79% growth in the last year and pubs, restaurants and hotels alike are often participating in micro brewery events and beer festivals - all of which are championing English beers, wines and spirits at regional level, often selected to match locally sourced food offerings as listed on their menus'.
