Antonine House is a care home with a difference. Opened in June 2013 and part of the Meallmore Group, this fabulous facility in Bearsden on the outskirts of Glasgow offers first class care in beautiful surroundings. Food is central to both the wellbeing of their residents and the social experience.
The Meallmore Group was set up by the Hennessey family back in 1987 when they opened their first nursing home just south of Inverness. The family business has grown steadily through both acquisition and new build sites and now totals 20 homes, each delivering an unprecedented level of care to every resident.

Antonine House is the new flagship site, purpose built with 81 en suite rooms, lounges, private dining rooms for entertaining, a cinema, roof terraces and gardens.
David Blackwood, Regional Catering Manager at Meallmore joined the business in June 2013 and has continued the tradition of keeping good food at the heart of the business whilst ensuring each home offers a wide variety of appetising meals which are appropriate for the variety of dietary and medical needs, regularly refreshed menu cycles and themed events to engage the residents.
Brakes and Meallmore Homes have been working in partnership since 2007, following a strategic category review with Meallmore’s purchasing partner Beacon.
The catering offered to residents is fundamental to the success of their overall care plans and so the Meallmore and Brakes partnership is vital.

Working in partnership with Beacon and Brakes has demonstrated better pricing, regular strategy reviews and introductions to manufacturers and suppliers for added value initiatives, for example we have worked alongside Brakes and Unilever to review and develop new menus to ensure all of our residents’ nutritional needs are met.
Brakes have a huge range of products that meet our requirement for high quality. Our residents are rightly demanding of the quality and variety of foods we serve. Ease of ordering is also critical. Whilst we order through our own online system, there is always a telesales person at the end of the phone who understands our business and has a local relationship with the chef at each site and we like the fact that Brakes are so advanced with their online ordering capabilities and it gives us options to place our orders in whichever way suits us as a business.”
