Everyone at Beacon would like to congratulate the Best Western Premier Yew Lodge Hotel & Conference Centre Hotel on achieving a GOLD Green Tourism Business Scheme Award.

Although the criteria have not changed in the last two years, the GTBS scoring has become more rigorous owing to advancements in technology, increasing awareness and the continuous improvement ethos of the scheme. Therefore, the retention of this grading level should be commended. Highlights from the visit include the electric car charging points, rolling replacement of halogen bulbs with LEDS, carbon offset programme, solar panels for hot water and good communication of the green message to guests.

Chris and Heather, the owners, clearly demonstrate a passion and enthusiasm for ensuring the hotel can be as sustainable as possible and this has been rewarded with a GOLD GTBS Award. If this enthusiasm continues, following the recommendations below, the hotel should successfully retain this award level at the next assessment. All in all, an excellent effort
