Competition Director, Chris Losh, said: "This award goes to show how the change in (Bibendum's) philosophy over the past five years is starting to have an many of their Gold and Silver medals were in key regions and at good prices: Beaujolais, Chablis, white Burgundy, Loire, Tuscany, Rueda, Navarra, Rioja, Bordeaux… you could put together a strong wine list just with them and without ever having to spend a fortune."

The Harpers Awards were held in conjunction with the London International Wine Fair this week and attracted leading figures from across the UK's on and off-trade and world of wine and spirits. Bibendum picked up three awards: the coveted Best Overall Agent/Distributor of the Year Award: Responsible/Sustainable Business of the Year; and a Special Achievement Award which went to Bibendum’s Managing Director, Michael Saunders.

Harpers Wine & Spirit Editor, Richard Siddle, commented on the Special Achievement Award, saying “Michael Saunders won Harper's first Special Achievement award for the impact Bibendum has had in changing the face of the traditional wine supplier.”

Following the ceremony, Michael Saunders commented: "I was truly humbled last night. I am always very proud of my team and the exceptional work they produce day in, day out to support our customers, but it was fantastic to see that work being recognised by our peers in the drinks trade.  The roll call of short listed companies was incredibly strong and reflected the real strength and quality of our industry. All the nominees would have been worthy winners. For Bibendum to be named amongst the list of those who did win awards is a wonderful achievement."

Congratulations to all at Bibendum from the beacon team!
