Calling all Seafood restaurants, pubs and chefs!

The search is on to find the best seafood restaurants, pubs and outstanding seafood chefs...
Seafish recently announced the date of its highly successful gala awards dinner which will take place in March next year.

John Harman Development Director of Seafish said: “Seafish would like to hear from any member of the public that wishes to nominate their local seafood chef, pub or restaurant if they think they deserve an award.” He continued: “Seafood restaurants play an inspirational role within the seafood industry, demonstrating what can be achieved with seafood. The Seafood Restaurant of the Year Awards recognises excellence within this category and restaurants that have made that extra effort to strive for perfection.”

The awards will be judged by a cross section of industry specialists and presented in London’s West End at the prestigious London Marriott Hotel, Grosvenor Square on Thursday 22 March 2007.

The categories this year include:


· Catching for the Market
· Technical Innovation
· Trainee of the Year
· Best New Seafood Product
· Aquaculture Producer of the Year
· Sustainable Future
· Best Seafood Week Campaign
· Seafood Multiple Retailer of the Year
· Seafood Independent Retailer of the Year
· Seafood Restaurant of the Year
· Seafood Pub of the Year
· Seafood Chef of the Year
· Schools Supporting Seafood


To enter the Seafood Pub of the Year Award, entrants need strong promotional and presentational skills, combined with a wide knowledge of, and passion for, seafood cookery. They also need to be able to demonstrate a recognition of sustainability and responsible sourcing, with seafood accounting for 60% of all food sales.

Due to the success of the Seafood Restaurant and Pub categories in 2005, a new category was launched for the people behind the scenes. Titled, Seafood Chef of the Year, the award is a fantastic opportunity to be recognised at the highest level for creative excellence and dedication to quality seafood cuisine.

C J Jackson of Billingsgate Seafood training School said: “Chefs play such an important role in raising the awareness of the wide range of seafood available. The Seafood Chef of the Year Award provides a focus for talented individuals to shine and become an ambassador, encouraging people to cook seafood well.”
