One hotel in Scotland has utilised the specialist suppliers and group purchasing power of its beacon membership to transform its bar, restaurant and bedrooms.
The Best Western Winnock Hotel is a former coaching inn, set in the beautiful countryside of Trossachs National Park near Loch Lomond and dates back to the late 1700`s. As a member of beacon - the purchasing specialists for the UK hospitality industry - the hotel`s owner, David Warnes, was able to call on the specialst skills of beacon and JS Design Partnership, one of its nominated refurbishment suppliers.
The brief was to refurbish the bar and restaurant, as well as create an additional lunge area. A new bedroom block, which would sit comfortably alongside the hotel`s traditional surroundings, was also required.
The first project saw the relocation of the bar to the existing split-level conference space to make way for an area with a `locals atmosphere` separate to the restaurant. An extension provided the additional lounge area and an improved disabled access link to the functions suite. A new bedroom block, featuring balconies built in a sympathetic style, takes advatntage of the attractive frontage overlooking the village green and replaces the former 'box-like' bedroom block, which previously faced the main car park entrance.
"Thorough planning and respect for the history of a place is essential when making changes to a building as old as this," said David Warnes.
"I feel lucky to have been able to call on beacon, who sourced a company for me that took all this into account and understood what my end goal was before proceeding with the refurbishment. I am thrilled with the new areas of the htoel, which I think only add to the hotel`s character."
Chris Arnold, Head of Purchasing & Operations at beacon comments: "Undertaking a refurbishment such as this is a major job for any hotelier, which is why beacon is pleased to have helped make life easier for Mr Warnes, allowing him to concentrate on running his hotel.
"It definitely helps to be able to tap into the resources of a specialist such as The JS Design Partnership - one of our key suppliers for bespoke design projects such as this one."
